Hi friends, I’m Brandon! I have recently joined the Anchors team as our Social Media Manager/ Blog Writer. Needless to say, I am extremely excited to work with a brand that I truly believe in and use every single day. Coming into this position, interaction with you, the community, is my utmost priority. I’m chock-full of community-centered ideas that I seriously cannot wait to bring to you all.
Serving as the first line of contact between our company and our customers is something that I don’t take lightly, but also want to make sure is a pleasant and fun experience all-around. That being said, let’s keep it loose and let’s get social, baby! Since we like to keep it serious-yet-silly here, I felt that the following Q & A were good indicators as to who exactly the face behind the Anchors account is:
Q1: If all the Anchors products fought to the death, which would win & why?
This is a toughie, because I seriously love and use every product, aside from the beard oil (curse you, nonexistent beard). However, I would have to declare Courage Clay the inevitable victor for a few reasons. First of all, it’s the newest of the entire bunch, so it would be fresh out the pack and ready to brawl. Second, if we consider the name “Courage Clay”, it’s implicit that it’s not afraid to go all Conor McGregor on the others. A
*Note: I might be a tad bit biased, because Courage Clay is my go-to each day, since the day it came out.
Q2: Dude who are you and what is your purpose?
Sometimes I wonder the same thing… (please excuse my self-depreciating humor in these blogs henceforth). But seriously, I am a college student at the University of Tennessee Knoxville studying Marketing and Entrepreneurship. I met Ben back in 2015 when I started getting my hair cut by him at Lox Salon. I feel that he very quickly became my “pseudo-therapist” after we shared life stories. He actually doesn’t know this, but he was the only one to cut my hair at that point other than my mother. So you know the homie trust is real. He reached out to me earlier this year with a potential job opportunity working for him at Anchors and I knew that I was interested the moment I saw the first sentence on the email. Now here we are, rockin’ and rollin’ on this social media game.
Q3: What can we expect now from the Anchors social accounts and blog?
I have got some pretty stellar ideas in the works, and I really cannot wait to bring that to the individuals who really enjoy our products. Just be on the lookout for some very interactive unique stuff with the Instagram particularly. As for the blogs, we’re going to keep it interesting for sure. The primary focus is of course, at its core, about hair. However, that isn’t to say that we won’t explore a little bit—don’t rule out some tangent topics such as menswear or men’s health. Just to name a few. I really have some interesting ideas for interactive community-focused projects. I’m really looking forward to showing you guys what I’ve got!
Q4: In a battle between Octopus People and Shark People, who would win?
Yes. These are the questions that we need to be asking. Personally, the octopus species is just so eerily ominous to me. I truly believe that the octopi would reign supreme. I don’t know though. I’d like to know what Ben thinks on this crucial issue.
Well, friends, I’m signing this bad boy off! Hope you learned a little about where I stand on the important issues facing our country. Don’t forget to follow us @anchorshairco on Instagram and follow this blog bi-weekly!
If you’re ever in the mood to try a new hair pomade and want to try something different, check out our collaboration pomades with The Pomp and ModernBuilds.com. They’re both great products that are unlike any other product available. They embody the personality of each brand and translate it through styled hair. Kind of cool huh!?
Our brand new pumpkin spice pomade is hitting the streets and we’ve been getting a ton of love for it. It’s a whole new formula for us so the feedback is very inspiring. I’ve personally have been using it exclusively and have found the hold to be slightly stronger than our Teddy Boy Matte, and it never hardens. Yesterday I want to the gym, hit the sauna and was able to manage my hair without any more product. This could be the start of something new for Anchors.
So first let me start off by saying that I would really love to be using a safety razor or straight blade but I’ve yet to learn so this is my current approach.
My biggest problem before was that I would get very bad irritation and I first tried all the expensive 3 and 4 blade razor brands. The worst part was that it would only last me about 3 shaves before my shaves would be uncomfortable. That’s why the cost of razors gets so high, I need to replace the blades so often. Then one day I was at Costco doing my shopping when I went to get a new set of blades… when I noticed something. I could get 50 disposable blades for about $25 or stick to my replaceable 3-4 blade brands for about $60 for 25 refills.
I thought I’d try out going with the cheap disposable blades and I’ve never looked back. I use them for about 3 shaves and throw them away without any guilt because I know that I’ve saved so much money and that’s what their for. This package tends to last me a year or more. I don’t have to wait for the painful shave before I throw it away, I also notice that having 50 razors I’m cant even remember when I bought them. Unlike the expensive brands I always felt that I was buying them all the time. I always feel that I’m getting a clean fresh shave.
I know that I’ll later get into a better shave, maybe the next time that I running low on razors I’ll make a switch but these are great to travel with.
A while back I decided to make the switch on my phone go truly silent. When switched to silent my phone doesn’t even vibrate and I can’t even begin to tell you how much that’s helped change my day. There are a few times that I’ll go silent, when I’m with my family, when I get home from work I’ve 3 hours with my daughters before they go to bed and any distractions can certainly wait 3 hours before I tend to them. When I’m having dinner with friends I’ll also go silent, I actually enjoy talking to my friends and give them my attention. Another time is when I’ve got a lot on my mind, it helps me concentrate and think long and deep. I love how technology makes us available, I love that I could video chat with my old Army friends and make each other laugh by looking at their ugly faces. Being able to show them what I’m talking about or when I randomly think of them send them a text, but I don’t expect everyone to respond immediately to me.
This might just be me, I enjoy having me space and sharing it with those around me.

Agian.. Today is going to be a long long day. My wife and I have a friend coming in town from Chicago this week, so I’m being forced (at gunpoint) to take a day off! Haha. My friends working the Amazon.com market said that this is sure to be a huge holiday season, so I need to hold onto my butt and start stocking up. Hopefully I’ll sell like 1 or 2 million hair products to stylish men and women by Christmas, but I won’t get my hopes up. (and no. I’m not even close to selling a million products!!) But Santa.. If you’re out there and reading this, and the elves drop the ball this year, I’m your man! Natural pomade and beard oil for every good little boy and girl out there!
My friend Kevin usually comes to help with production one day a week, but since Kev’ got an amazing bartender gig at one of the swankiest bars in town, it’s been hard to nail down a good day for us to work together. Having Kev’ there really helps the flow of the day. We never step on each others toes and the delegation process is smooth. But he can’t be there today so it looks like I’ll be batchin’ some sweet sweet natural pomade by myself today.
Today I’ll be working on consistency and accuracy. It’s hard to always be accurate when you don’t have thousand dollar scales to weigh all of your oils and waxes oin, and it’s equally as hard to stay consistent when you’re doing a million things at once, but that’s what makes the job fun! It’s the attention to detail that is the make or break factor for any product company. My wife just wishes I was as detail oriented with my products as I am when I mow the lawn or hang pictures. Haha.
I’ll be shipping a ton of naturalpomade, beard oil and sulfate free shampoos to Australia and China this week as well, so if you’re in the neighborhood, watch out! Want some shipped to you?! We also have samples now!

WOW I just woke up, took a look at my YouTube Subscriptions and saw the title Winning GQ Man of the year now if you’ve watched any vlogs you know the titles are slightly click bait if you haven’t… Just don’t take them seriously, it’ll make sense once you watch. Anyways the video starts with some of his best work, the reason why I subscribed. Right at the 1:23 mark the vlog breaks into his editing and instrumental music. The dude is invited to British GQ and wins the “New Media Star” Of the year award. This guy is killing it.
If you don’t fall down his rabbit hole of vlogs or even his short films which are all awesome the guy talks about finding his passion while working a crappy job, quitting and moving to New York City to become a film maker. I find him inspirational, his art really strikes with me. I believe that we’ll later know be seeing a lot more of him.
We all got time to put aside to do what we love, so after your done with your day job that pays the bills do the thing you love. Do it until your really good at it, no matter what it is and be patient. After a year you’ll realize your a lot better and maybe by then you might be able to sell it. Then one day you’ll realize that it pays more than the day job and then your working for yourself.
Wow this blog just went down a rabbit hole that could be broken into pieces. I’ll follow up with something else later, in the mean time if you want to reach out to me Holler at me.
I finally took some time to get offline, the family and I decided to take trip to Austin for Labor day weekend. It wasn’t a bad drive to get down there from Fort Worth. We stayed at a really nice place on Lamar, had dinner next door at Red’s Porch which is a great place to eat! We spent most of our time in pools and on the trails, Austin’s trails are unlike anywhere else. People are everywhere and everyone is super friendly. I could live in Austin because of their trails alone. I took the whole family to 6th street early around 5pm to try and avoid all the mess that happens once the sun goes down. It was my wife’s first time to Austin so she had a blast seeing 6th street and walking up to the capital building, it’s gorgeous. Before leaving 6th street we spoted by my all time favorite pizza place The Backspace and got a pizza to go but I totally recommend eating there, on the bar with the pizza fresh out of the oven. We left monday morning after having breakfast with friends, over all it was a great family vacation!
Sometimes we want to change things up just a bit, and I found that either using some extra product or using less can give me a different look without having to cut into a different style. Take an extra scoop, use a comb and get a super sharp dapper look, think like Dan Draper in Mad Men. This is a simple way to really make a sharp look, you can follow this up with a button down shirt and some slacks or some dark jeans. You can take this up a notch by taken an iron to your clothes.
Now for the opposite look use less product and go for a messy bed head, I do recommend starting by blow drying your hair as it will help manage your hair. This look is best for that relaxed weekend, or when you might want to wear a hat. With a little product you’ll be able to fix your hair if you want to go hatless midday.
This is a just a short blog to remind you that you can change up your image by making just a small changes to your routine.
This is Tom, and I screwed up my haircut. Here is a little fact about me, when I want a haircut I need to do it right then If I don’t I tend to feel like a mop top until I cut my hair. So when this feeling comes and my local barber shop is not open… I’ll dust off my old clippers and start chopping. While I was in the military I was the guy cutting everyone’s hair on Sunday that didn’t make it to the Barber Shop so that they wouldn’t get smoked (punished) on Monday morning. I would also cut my own hair if I forgot to go to the Barber Shop myself. So cutting my own hair is not something new to me. Outside of the Military now and into my “Professional” life I don’t have a Monday morning deadline I need to meet so this feeling to cut my hair doesn’t come often (wait did I just figure out that feeling?!) So a couple weeks ago I grab the clippers and start to fade, I’m using a number 5 on the highest part of the fade and I do something dumb. I’m looking at the mirror and I want to get the stranglers and instead of going around my head I went straight back like a mohawk and I did this a few times before I realized I just fucked up my DIY haircut. There was no going back. I took the 5 ALL THE WAY FULL HOOAH (military joke, you never want to go full hooah. Google it for a laugh) So it’s done I’ve got nothing to style for a few weeks. It was actually nice to save some time in the morning but it’s been a few weeks and fast forward to this week. I cracked open my favorite pomade the Teddy Boy Matte and through some on my short hair and I was surprised at the difference. Even with such short hair I want from a stuffed animal to a clean crew cut. I’m able to manage my hair a little but the clean look is worth the tiny bit of product I need to use. I’ll take some pics and post on social media for examples.
Thanks to each on of you and I hope you enjoy the products!
